Brief
The residents of a 1970s tower asked how to make their flats warm in winter and cool in summer without moving out while the work was done.
Approach
We are designing the retrofit from the outside in. New windows and insulated balcony enclosures go on from scaffolding, one stack of flats at a time, and the heating moves to a shared heat pump.
Materials
Timber-framed windows, insulated glass enclosures on the existing balcony slabs and a mineral render in the original grey.
